教练:CrossFit 的力量倍增器

另一方面,我对健身教员的印象要么是“依样画葫”的健身操或团体健身操教练,要么是喊着励志口号的“名人教练”,要么是基本不熟练、不感兴趣、无趣味的人在教低水平技能孤立动作、同时帮着计数或者将插销推入机器。
这是因为当 CrossFit 出现时,商业健身房是充满闪亮器械的零售空间。体能训练被简化为没有任何技能要求的非功能性、通常是孤立的机器运动。腿弯举、腿部伸展、高位下拉、二头肌弯举和三头肌回扣已经取代了深蹲、硬拉和推举。健身房老板和经理出售尽可能多的会员卡,同时暗中希望他们的会员不要出现。教练员们在现场分发毛巾和追加销售会员资格。他们绝对不需要指导客户正在做的动作,而且他们没有教授有效动作的技能。女性继续使用有氧运动器械和带有颜色编码的小型哑铃,而男性则使用大型器械和带有令人印象深刻的重量堆叠的铁疙瘩。在这种环境下,客户的健康和健身目标甚至都不在考虑之列,而且这些健身房取得的成绩充其量也只是低于标准水平。

专业化的健身教练
从一开始,CrossFit 对健身教练的理解就与众不同。在标志性文章“专业训练 ”中,CrossFit 的创始人格雷格·格拉斯曼 (Greg Glassman) 为 CrossFit 教练制定了一份章程,该章程充满了目标和影响,提升了职业度并使健身教练更专业化:

早在 2004 年,我就在加利福尼亚州圣克鲁斯的一家名为 CrossFit Santa Cruz 的小型健身房参加了我的第一堂 CrossFit 课程。主持我的课程的人是格雷格·格拉斯曼 (Greg Glassman),他是 CrossFit 的创始人和所有者,也是第一家 CrossFit 健身房的教练。
