I first started doing crossfit over four years ago when a college buddy of mine in South Carolina who had started doing crossfit himself turned me on to it. The workouts sounded insane and at the time I was doing the typical bodybuilding type routines. Something that I had done since I started exercising back in high school in my friend Mike’s basement with his brother’s rag tag set of weights. Like most people I started checking out the main site WODs just to see what they were and occasionally I would try one movement out. It wasn’t until almost four to five months after I first went to crossfit.com that I actually did, or tried to do the workout of the day. I pretty much decided then that this was all insanity and that I wasn’t doing crossfit again. Well probably something like three weeks later I checked out the site again, and again, and again. Over the next few months I slowly incorporated crossfit into my workouts and about 3 years ago I completely abandoned bodybuilding workouts all together, and lets just say that the present day me can run faster, jump higher, throw farther, and punch harder then ever before.
Since I’ve discovered crossfit I have grown to appreciate and embrace the sense of community that surrounds it. Crossfit is much more then a workout, its a lifestyle and that is why I, along with my business partner and childhood friend Mark DiSalvo, have decided to open our own CrossFit “Box” or facility. I hope to truely intergrate crossfit into my daily lifestyle has so many within the community already have and I hope to bring a few of you along with me as well.

It is a bit weird to write about myself, but I will try to give you a summary of my background and what I am about. I am 28 and I have been weight training since I was 17, but I spent most of that time using the traditional bodybuilding approach. It was a great start to my life in fitness because it helped me develop alot of strength and muscle over the years. I have competed in and won amateur natural bodybuilding events. But then John introduced me to CrossFit, and it has grown into my primary way of training. The common sense, functionality, science, and intensity of the CrossFit approach changed my definition of fitness, thus the style of my training. And as important as anything else, the variation of the movements & creativity of the workouts adds a newness and excitement to each training day.
I decided to partner up with John in opening our own CrossFit training facility because it was time to start doing what I love. I feel people need to do what they are skilled at & what they are passionate about. I wanted to spend my time doing something that I felt contributed or made some form of an impact on peoples lives. I have spent 10 years of my life dedicated to fitness, studying diet & nutrition, and even the human psyche. I know and believe it is that experience, knowledge, and understanding that will continue to help others achieve their goals.
I wanted to become a CrossFit affiliate for 2 reasons. Of course one is because the training methods and definition of fitness are revolutionary. However, the primary reason was due to the atmosphere and environment between and across CrossFit affiliates. The Affiliates offer great support to one another. The trainers genuinely care for their students. But most impressive, is how the students support the other students. The positive form of competition and support seems to bring out the best in the members which enhances the results and creates a close community. The model of training and community exemplified at a CrossFit gym is unique and inspiring.
